The Prom Pose II (#192: 2023’02’08’W)

Of course there’s more than one way of doing it

[1 MIN READ]

I would like to believe that I’m above gendered stereotypes (open-minded person that I am), but out-moded thinking can die hard, I guess. I’m not the only one vulnerable to it.

When the suggestion came up of what pose to use for the weekly photo, I heard “prom pose” and promptly started telling people how to do it: the female version, that is. This isn’t the first time we’ve featured the female-forward version. Take a look at the 2022’01’26’W Cerebrun and photo.

Where I not being the only enters the conversation is that no one challenged me: “Hey, CtC: how about the male version? Why aren’t we doing that one?” That’s where credit goes to 2 people in particular for doing their own version of challenging. For his part, Christian said, “I’ve been to a few proms and no one ever told me there’s a standard pose.” The other Growler just did their thing >coughADELAIDEcough< without saying a word. (The 2 others photo-edited in were excused entirely.)

There’s hope in the world for getting past conventional ways of thinking and doing. I myself will keep learning.
