What’s Changed and What’s Stayed the Same (#200: 2023’04’05’W)

Cerebruns and the Growlers Group Run

[2 MIN READ]

This Cerebrun marks #200 which began as thoughts then “Thoughts” 4½ years ago (2018’09’26’W). (If you want to see the numerical progression as the weeks go by, check out each posting on Cerebruns by CtCloser.)

ATTENDANCE: Since the first, the attendance has changed just a little. A few have gone. Many have come. At least 1 (aside from me) still pops in every so often from Elkins Park Beer Runners (looking at Tania, here). One person that’s been a big part of the last few years is Train Dave who still runs with the group regularly. His introduction of (now wife) Adelaide has helped to make the club a more embracing running space.

THEMES: Although relationships have always been an important part of these thoughts, earlier on, this column has often focused on the running effort. Even during the early COVID years (2020 and 2021), the Growlers managed to continue running unofficially (while the store went online) and the column continued. As the Growlers Group Run started growing in 2021 and through 2022, the themes became increasingly about the club’s community.

PHOTO DOCUMENTATION: Pictures went from being an occasional phenomenon to a weekly thing, At times, they’ve taken on a life of their own: Poses, J’Adam.

NAME: The first Thought didn’t even have that designation, it was just me starting to give a little personality to what was otherwise a weekly reminder that included an occasional picture of those who attended the previous week. “Cerebruns” became my nerdy moniker for the column with #101 (2021’4’21’W). With #149 (2022’04’27’W), each started getting their own individual titles.

THE CONSTANTS: Well, there’s been me throughout the years of this column (it does exist because my big, fat brain started overflowing), but even when it’s played second fiddle to the group members, there’s always also been the Jenkintown store of The Original Running Company. In recognition of Jenkintown Running Company, I present “The Panorama.” Thank you, ORC.
