It’s nice not only when people pay attention to personality and preferences, but also when they choose to honor them. While I don’t expect much recognition from the other runners in the group, it’s nice when I get it.
I do call myself the club anchor, but it’s debatable if that’s a positive designation or a negative one: You can say either that I keep the Growlers steady or that I hold them back. Regardless, I have my way of doing things that the rest of the crew recognizes.
Last week’s attendance photo was unconventional because I didn’t wait for everyone to pose. It’s more work for me to edit the final photo—aesthetics count for something—but doing that work injects variety into my life.

Shooting the first 3 photos (of 5 total) did manage to unnerve Shoshana: “This isn’t a one-and-done.” She knows SOP that features the first-and-only photo, no matter the quality. But it was okay: we were even faster than usual and it still accomplished the attendance-taking goal.
Stacey also gets it. When I took a picture of the crew another time and excluded myself, Taylor took note. Me: “No problem, I’ll just find another picture of myself and paste it in.” Him: “Ah, yes. Photoshop.” Stacey: “No, Paint.”
Maybe I’m an anchor in the immovability sense, but at least people are okay keeping me company.
