A Change Was in Order (#325: 2025’10’08’W)

So a new name it became

[1½ MIN READ]

After the 09’17’W Cerebrun, newbie Kate was eager to know what my crew-nickname proposition would be for her. The fact that she was around to express eagerness was a good sign.

We regular crew members don’t like to put pressure on first timers, because who knows if they’ll keep coming? Aside from social connection, sometimes logistics is an issue. Intentions and affection can be completely in line, but weekly schedules or external factors can come into play. We just don’t know for certain if a first-timer will become a regular. This means that the regulars tend to use the word “if” about future involvement when we talk to newbies. Kate caught that fact pretty quickly the evening she first joined us: “Why does everyone keep saying ‘if’ I come back?”

Well, she came back—repeatedly. This allowed the nickname negotiation process to begin. I had a proposition, but who wants a nickname that they don’t like?

My suggestion was K3. It was homage to the other 2 “Kate” regulars in the club, previously, and a reference to the well-known mountain of nearly-the-same name (Wikipedia). “Kate” is in quotes because one was actually a “Cait” (not that you could tell from just hearing it); hence, K-Kate and C-Cait as trailtags for them. This made K3, actually, a misnomer. This gave Jason the opening to suggest the actual “K2.” And that is what her Growlers trailtag is now: K2.

There you go, K2. Your trailtag will live on, even if you become, um, irregular. Consider “The Daves of GGR.” However, all bets are off if I’m the one who goes irregular: I am the only one who really cares.
