Tried, Not So True (#224: ZY Weekly Newsletter 7/18/26)

Treating Ankle Sprains

[1 MIN READ]

Having sprained my ankles repeatedly, particularly my left, has made them prone to reinjury. We’ve probably all experienced our own versions of that truth. Research has confirmed that reality.

Having sprained my ankles during official events and unofficial activities means that I’ve also learned how to cope with them: I keep running. If this sounds like a terrible idea as practiced by one weird runner, other research now says, ‘Not so weird.’

Check out Elsewhere (in the News [ShawmontRunningClub.com]) to read more about this ostensibly counterintuitive practice, but the simple fact is that the RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) could give way to PEACE and LOVE (Protect, Elevate, Avoid, Compress, Educate and Load, Optimism, Vascularization, Exercise). It’s so memorable!

The simple reality is that old practices regarding the treatment of ankle sprains can give way to new, more productive ways. So, getting back to active exercise as soon as pain becomes tolerable could be the best way to recover. Check out the concept of Whisper, Talk, Yell as a way of gauging what tolerable means for you(iCandybyWangC.com).

That and practices by various weird runners may not actually be so weird after all.
