Thanks to the 5 who came to the Growlers Group Run in my absence I could confidently join Black Men Run from Boathouse Row’s Lloyd Hall in Philly knowing there would be a good bunch who knew what to do back at the running store. Things were a little less good on my end.
I arrived at Jenkintown Running Company a little early so that I could bring anyone else with me who wanted to join. What wasn’t so good is that I hadn’t bothered to check the drive time and immediately had to rush out leaving Jason behind who was one of those who did want to. The drive time meant that I would arrive 5 minutes late to BMR.
I arrived at Lloyd Hall at 7:05 p.m. and found no BMR runners to join. I’ve run with them 2x before and knew that they are a lot like us in loitering as everyone slowly congregates. Guessing maybe I got something wrong, I decided to run the route I remembered anyway. What wasn’t so good is that the dark of standard time made for creepy conditions. A different individual might have bailed, but I kept at it and even added on a little around around Please Touch Museum.
I arrived at the last leg of my run near Philadelphia Zoo confident I’d have a solid 7 miles total. What wasn’t so good is that I very nearly got creamed by a car turning left behind me and whose driver spied me shockingly late before finally stopping successfully. I danced a little in surprise.
I arrived back to my car to find a message from the group anchor that BMR runs at 6p during fall and winter. Ah, well. I ultimately did fine and now know better to prepare early enough both to bring people from JRC GGR and make the start of BMR’s run. All good in the end.
