The Growler’s Group Run Facebook group is open, so anyone with an FB profile can join. While I have the administrative rights to nix someone, I’ve never done it. Well with the membership of one particular person, we started getting solicitations to fundraising-slash-vendor events at Human Robot and I had to start wondering if it was time to be more judicious. Since it’s often possible to look at a person’s profile to see if they’re runners who want to be friends from afar, that’s what I did. And I found nothing. By all appearances, it looked like the person created the profile just to join the Growlers and start promoting these events.
In September, the fundraising emphasis was education and the local schools. Since Growlers Adelaide is an English teacher, I decided it might be a good opportunity to do some reconnaissance. Even though it was the Wednesday before our usually 3rd-week WWW, I made the suggestion to go over to the Growlers in attendance and got thumbs ups. When we got to Human Robot, I checked out the vendors and started looking for the stalking Growler. When I finally heard someone mention her name, I went over and introduced myself. It turns out she really is a runner who name-dropped Growlers Kevin and said she really does want to join us some time. And though I didn’t do any purchasing, Grace and newbie Megan did.
She’s still a member of our Facebook group and she’s still promoting events, one of which we’re attending tomorrow night, 08’W. And she still won’t be running with us because she’ll be executing that event. Feel free to support the vendors and get stuff for holiday gift giving. And twist her arm to join us for a run.
