Promoting Saucony via GGR (#330: 2025’11’12’W)

Second of 2 club vendor events so far

[1½ MIN READ]

Saucony at Growlers Group Run was the motivation for starting promotion of the club to 3 different neighborhood groups. Although I’ve been a member of Jenkintown’s Facebook group for a few years, I’ve never used it to introduce the run club and crew to the borough. (I’ve always just eavesdropped.) Given that JRC brought Saucony (“Sock-a-knee”) in to present its shoes to us, I decided to go for it. I also used it as an excuse to reach out to the Abington and Glenside/Wyncote groups. First, I had to join them. Then I had to get approval of my posts. Neither of those efforts was easy given that politics has made community groups the loci for unwanted social-media attention.

Once I got permissions to post, I had to place the running club front and center with the commercial promotion of Saucony secondary. Commerce has also made community groups the loci for unwanted attention, so there are rules for promoting businesses like JRC and Saucony.

The whole effort was a mixed success. A success was that we topped our attendance for a vendor event by 2 for a total of 15 runners. Compare that to the previous event. A failure is that no one responded to any of the messages I sent to the 3 community groups. A success was the opportunity to test and approve Saucony’s Endorphin Speed 5: extremely light, roomy, and comfortable. A failure was not getting everyone to test out shoes rep James brought (See “previous event.”). A success was getting pizza out of the visit. A failure was not getting mushrooms because the shop didn’t have any (?!).

As the club regrows and strengthens, we’ll keep looking forward to supporting other vendor events. Thanks for this one, James!
