[1½ MIN READ]
In an unparalleled effort for this Shawmonter, I ran 2 marathons in 2 weeks this past April. Social runner that I’ve become, I got sucked and suckered in by multiple competitors who wanted company both while training and racing. I didn’t PR or Boston qualify, but I was plenty happy to execute my racing strategy very nearly as perfectly as planned. I also finished the 2nd marathon plenty admirably for a 2nd effort so close to the first. The best I’d done before that was 2 marathons in 2 months. That was in 2014. Sucked and suckered in again, I did the Dirty German 25K just 13 days after that 2nd marathon. DG would be the first trail race I had ever run. Sure there were a couple slips, but nothing broke and I was still marathon conditioned. The whole effort was rather refreshing. Completing DG gave me a PR 3 long-distance races within 4 weeks.
When I crossed the finish line prancing happily with Wednesday night GGR friend in tandem, I heard someone yell out a number. ‘Ooh,’ I thought, ‘That place out of a few hundred runners is pretty good!’ Then someone else put a prize box in my hands and said, “Congratulations, you’re first in your age group!” My best finish ever in any race! (And that by 18 minutes.) Not only did rudder bunny and I have a blast in our respective first trail races, but I got a lovely Black-Forest-style thermometer station to boot.
