Photographic Trope (#344: 2026’03’04’W)

Isn’t every pose one or another?

[1½ MIN READ]

Last week’s photo was a repeat from previous months and years, and, personally, I don’t love it; but someone suggested it and people liked the idea, so I got overruled. Democracy in action.

The problem with it is that it washes some people’s faces out because of the ceiling lights that are Everywhere in the store. On the flip side, it leaves some people’s faces dark who are closer to the camera. The photo quality shouldn’t be an issue if the purpose is primarily to take attendance (hence the cutting and pasting of people from random other photos), but that’s just another weird thing about me: even the quality of a cheesy cut-and-paste job matters. Positioning, sizing, subject seasonality; I pay attention to that kind of thing.

Using the pose again does let me think about the other times we’ve used it and the people who were in attendance. Admittedly, that’s kind of cool. I don’t feature pictures in these here Cerebruns unless one is about the picture or subject, usually they’re only in the Growlers’ Facebook group. However, using them here does give me the chance to break up all the words, otherwise; you know, blah, blah, blah. So here are the 3 other instances of the pose across the years.

I guess thinking and writing about it does also make me consider future possible opportunities when I can get people closer to the camera and/or use flash. If the pose really has persistent popularity, doing so is a way to make the most of it.

Well, look what’s to be gained with the breaking of convention. Progress! Thanks for the overrule.
