Posers: Jackie Edition (#302: 2025’04’02’W)

AKA the Wilson pose

[1½ MIN READ]

Newer GGR crew members don’t know that being a poser is a thing with us. There’s an entire series of Cerebruns and pictures featuring the characteristic way certain people present in the weekly Attendance photo.

Quite intentionally, Jackie has been distinguishing herself of late with her own pose. She’s not above drawing attention to herself, but she might not have known that doing so would make her the butt of the visual joke, the face(less) of the photographic farce, so to speak.

Her pose in recent weeks has been strangely reminiscent of the character Wilson from the sitcom Home Improvement. His schtick was always to be addressing the main character Tim as his neighbor behind the wooden fence. Audience members never actually saw his face below his eyes, which made the possibility of actually seeing it tantalizing. Whenever the story required him to move away from the fence, the camera angle would always show the bottom of his face behind another obstruction.

Jackie’s take started being to position her face behind someone else’s hand. So that’s what last week’s photo directive was: “Everyone: Get your face behind a hand.” And that’s what everyone dutifully did.

Now you might wonder what’s the point of an attendance photo if you can’t see people’s faces. Details, details. The point of attendance taking is to take attendance. Faces are incidental. And if the photographic event provides an opportunity for a fun-loving group to have a little more fun, then more is the better. So, until the next victim next time, I present to you…The Jackie.
