• And being a good sport in the process •
Lynette moved to the Philly area at the beginning of 2025 and started running with JRC’s Growlers Group Run on Wednesday nights. She decided to run her first marathon not so long after and picked Philadelphia. She’ll be moving back to Florida in December for a short not-even-one-year stint in our midst. Apparently, she intends to go out with a bang. Last week was one indication of that intent. Having completed her first 14 miler with the lot of us along the marathon route, she rose to the challenge of Shawmont Avenue. The challenge rose to meet her right back.
Tooling down Forbidden Drive, she caught her foot on a rock poking just a little up amid the leaf litter — the litter that’s the bane of fall running for exactly the reason that it’s even harder to notice the rocks. Trail surface and skin surface met: Too many SRC-ers know from firsthand experience which one yields. The great thing (or the worst thing) about an injury like that is that it sure does generate attention. Blood streaming down does that. She didn’t complain and got right back to work.
Tooling up Shawmont Avenue was less than she would have imagined and her meeting with it was charitable.
Instead it was the sidewalk along Ridge Avenue that met her. Shawmont Avenue still managed to come back to haunt her as her tired legs caught one of those perilous slab imperfections and down she went again. For better or for worse it was the skin of her other knee that met with the surface.
We went back via Northwestern Avenue for 13 and the trail was more forgiving as we finished up. Lynette kept her good spirits despite the hit, the hill, and the second hit. That contributed to the conception of a new trailtag: Ironette.
This posting marks my 200th piece for this illustrious publication*. You won’t see the numbering here, but I co-publish every one of my Ruminations at iCandybyWangC where you’ll see each by date and number going back to #1 (2019’09’07’S). If you click on the Ruminations by CtCloser link in the Fine Print at the bottom of every contribution, you can drop in and browse the previous 199.
One aspect of the bang of Lynette’s time running in Philadelphia will be her presence on this memorable Rumination.

Congrats on the 200 Milestone!!
I’m sorry to hear Lynette fell twice in one day. UGH! Christine fell yesterday on our run… can we blame the full moon?
