A podcast that I mentioned in 10’30’W Cerebrun about the phrase “run crew” has had me thinking since the time I heard it. The term “crew” describes running groups that have moved beyond just helping runners get better competitively to helping runners get warmer communally. To that degree, I’m all over the idea. I’ve been cultivativing the idea of community over competition for a few years at GGR. And I’ve put a premium on the idea of building community where I can (Communitizing).
How warm the Growlers have gotten may not be that significant a function of anything I’ve done, in particular, but it certainly is warmer than in earlier days when I first started running with the group, circa 2012. Warm means that we spend more time after runs dawdling together and socializing and even taking a few vacations together; to run races, albeit, but still…
It’s all made my life more meaningful and more enjoyable. And I know it’s made life more so for other crew members. For that, I’m exceedingly thankful and optimistic for the new year coming as we begin the second quarter of the century.
