Among the Growlers, more than one has used the description of us as a drinking group with a running problem. Last week it was more like a drinking group with an exploring problem.
A handful of us started from one of the Growler couples’ houses near Willow Grove where we were also planning to finish. That meant running a route we’ve never done as a group: not unfamiliar, given that we’re all locals, but definitely exploratory in its own way. That route had us doing one kind of running I very much like, doing familiar streets at running speed that I would otherwise see only while driving, albeit much more briefly. The exploratory would be less if we simply ran the same course in return. But why do that?
The return route had us doing yet another kind of running that I like, seeing new things altogether. The big risk of me of getting lost became essentially a non-issue with Train David in the lead. That route took us along roads most of us had never driven and along a path none of us could drive, up stairs. “Essentially a non-issue” meant that Stacey and I had to do a little self discovery when we got separated from the rest.
The literal “exploring problem” just made that part of the description more authentic. At Rudder Bunny’s house to wrap up, we then authenticated the “drinking group” part.
