I Get By with a Little Help from My Friends* (#143: ZY Weekly Newsletter 11/25/23)

Something we can all use occasionally

[1½ MIN READ]

I wrote at the beginning of November about SRC-branded products to ill affect. It seems Facebook trolls abound these days and will take advantage of any prompt to try to phish for information to steal in connection with false-product sales. Who knew?

A couple of legit SRC group members knew, that’s who. They quickly told me what to do and as an administrator for SRC’s FB page I took the necessary actions. Or so I thought. I didn’t go quite far enough and a couple of trolls still managed to get by. After a few more goes at trying to secure the group, I finally called in the cavalry and made one of those friends another group admin. That member, with experience managing another FB group, leapt to the fore and locked down the group membership to the most secure level possible for a public group.

When I first started running seriously back in 2011, I did a lot of personal learning and experimentation. I’m fortunate that I’ve done pretty well with that self-informed work but running with SRC members and folks from my Wednesday Growlers Group Run has helped me tackle issues that I simply couldn’t manage myself. And every so often, I’ve had to get help from the next level of skilled individuals up. With running, it was a professionally trained physical therapist who helped with recovery.

There’s a lot that one persistent individual can do solo, but every so often it’s time to call in the cavalry to provide additional support. Sometimes sooner is better than later. That’s a lesson to take forward for the next issue, whether related to Facebook group management or running.
