The hometown running club is doing the hometown race. That would be the Growlers Group Run running Jenkintown Sunset 5K.
The claim to the HRC designation is historical. JRC pioneered the running store niche in Jenkintown in the 80’s (as Fleet Feet, before someone bigger and richer claimed the name) and hosted a running group right from the start. The Growlers Group Run is still it. The claim to the hometown race designation is certainly by popularity, if not also historicity.
As I look at the faces of the folks in the recent pictures, I’m also seeing a convergence on Jenkintown hometown residency. When I started running 12 years ago, the residency was more Abington (including me) with at least one from Philly. These days we have legacy JNK residents and regional immigrants populating the majority of the group. It feels à propos: however, hometown residency has never been a requirement for GGR and never will.
