Jenkintown Adam (as opposed to Terrapin Adam, the latter being named after the University of Maryland mascot, the former being named after the place of residence) has been advocating a new and different running route around the Jenkintown Running Company.
The backyard route is a variation of one he suggested and that we did last summer. The idea is essentially to shoot westward across the borough to the other side of the train station. Then a quick jaunt through the Ralph Morgan Park and over to the Wyncote neighborhood of Glenside. Next, a scenic traverse of the George Perley Bird Sanctuary. Finally, a cursory sampling of the backyards before traversing the flood berm along the local branch of Tookany Creek and returning. Except for the episode going through his parents’ backyard, we otherwise eschewed flagrant trespassing.
Those who know the area can look at the map for more details (Ignore the north, Abington, bit to and from home. You’re looking east to west and back: miles 1-5.), but we course newbies were pleasantly surprise by the wealth of wooded trail right in our figurative backyard.
