One Illustrious Publication (#216: ZY Weekly Newsletter 3/21/26)

Connecting with SRC II

(ShawmontRunningClub.com, above [1½ MIN READ])

The best way to get to know Shawmont Running Club is by running with its members from the Zen Yanni Memorial Bench at the top of Forbidden Drive (ShawmontRunningClub.com, Google Maps). Another way is to browse the pages of the club website.

This here ruminant (i.e., one that ruminates) has done what he can to give casual readers a little of a feel for the club through his weekly ruminations (Google.com, iCandybyWangC.com). For prospective runners, it’s a very linear — and possible tedious — process. Think of a papyrus scroll. You can’t just jump from section to section in an organic way; you have to keep reading as the author chooses to unfold their narrative. That means it could take a while to get a decent sense of the group.

OTOH, think of the website more like a choose-your-own-ending book. You can explore it a little and get a feel for the group by pursuing your own path.

There aren’t a lot of pictures — one to a few every season — but the Image Gallery allows the visitor to glance across time to see new faces and veterans. The Personalities page allows you to get to know some of the individuals that frequent the club. The Ruminations Contributors page features current and past ruminants.

Other features of the newsletter includes Whoz Doin’ What (upcoming races), Congrats-a-mundo to All (past races), Elsewhere in the News (all things, uh, racy), and Themz Who Was There (Saturday runners not racing). To speak to Congrats and Elsewhere this week, look for Prof. Sandy with links to a new profile page for her.

Whether you feel more connected to SRC as a result of the website remains to be seen, but, like running itself, it won’t be for lack of trying.
