No, Donuts and Discussion Didn’t Crumble

People ate it up

[1½ MIN READ]

Donuts and Discussion made a reappearance from last year as a club outreach activity. Like last year, it ran for 3 Wednesdays across consecutive weeks at the beginning of the semester.

This D&D featured a few of us club reps sitting in the Chat eatery giving out free donuts and soliciting votes for opposing question prompts. Here’s one pair: Would you rather be the most famous person in the world? Would you rather not know anyone?)

Here are a few take aways. One question usually seems to be a blowout vote getter. For instance, people love the idea of attention. Various people are getting pretty familiar to us for coming back multiple days. And even coming back sequential years. Students in line to order their lunch will change plans in order to suck up to free donuts. Fresh Daryl’s Pastries donuts in Glenside are hands down adored over chain-store donuts (Facebook).

Here are a few more take aways. Visibility is good; so the club has been getting signups by people who’ve heard about it and want Christian community, but either didn’t know anyone in the club or didn’t know when we met. Other people like just engaging with club reps as people, not stereotypes of Christians they’ve known or conceived without knowing. Six-dozen donuts is too few. Eight dozen is too many. Seven dozen is just right.

Recognizing the success of this kind of outreach event, the student leadership voted to do it on a monthly basis. What can you say about popularity? People eat it up. Yeeeeahhhh.

Consider donuting: (Yeah, I did that, too.) Daryl’s donuts aren’t expensive, but neither are they cheap. Sure we have money, but the donation help to CCO @ ACF will make more events like Donuts and Discussion possible (CCO).
