Fall is Marathon Season (#283: 2024’11’20’W)

PR’s all around

[<1½ MIN READ]

Consider this a motivational piece for any new runners out there.

The last few months brought 5 particular GGR runners (4 brand-new and one pseudo-regular[:p]), all with marathon aspirations: AndEss, CJ3, Li, Sylvia, and Yuki. Except for CJ3—doing his second, all were doing this mammoth distance for the first time. As a group of primarily social runners doing 5K Wednesday-night distances, that meant another group needed to step in for the distance efforts (SRC. Think 10 miles and up.). You should know that many runners can train solo, but a heck of a lot more really need the motivation of others to keep them training properly.

Well, fall marathon season is nigh and it’s time to deliver. CJ3 led the events with his Harrisburg Marathon run on 11’10’U (Time: 4:17:48). Next is Sylvia and AndEss doing Philadelphia (11’24’U). Finally, Li and Yuki will be doing Honolulu (12’08’U).

You may think that a marathon (26.2 miles) is waaay beyond your reach but consider that every marathoner begins from 0. So, there is not a single one who started moving their feet thinking that they wanted to run for some 4 hours over many, many miles. Yet, here they are.

These marathoners IN NO WAY, trivialize the casual (i.e., non-competitive) and 5K-distance runners. Come out to GGR and the crew will celebrate you, no matter the distance you usually run and whether you do it competitively or not.

The great thing about any race a runner does, 5K or marathon or anything else, they are guaranteed a personal record for the distance. Now doesn’t that motivate you, new runner, to get out and run?
