Talks-a-Lot* Bob got on Facebook in early September to share a pic of himself wearing an SRC-branded running shirt. I’ve often thought about purchasing my own; but I got a hard lesson about inventory and commerce: You don’t recoup costs if it’s sitting around. So, sell it! And that’s what Zen Yanni did, which means there’s nothing around to be had.
A funny thing happened at the trail a few weeks later: the quantity I’d never before seen of SRC-branded paraphernalia! Or at least noticed. “We are SRC!”

To say the least, I felt left out. I’ve been running with the group for 11 years and I don’t have anything branded. It’s my humble opinion that there are enough new people who love Shawmont Running Club that it might be a great opportunity to print and stock a new bunch of stuff.
When you hear people say someone’s irreplaceable, they were thinking of folks like Zen Yanni (John Van Allen, 1947-2023). It’s taken 2 of us to keep the new newsletter going that ZY did solo. And there are still other things he did that the group is continuing to figure out, branded wear among them. Well, start saving up your greenbacks now for when we finally do.

*I didn’t know him before, so I messaged him to confirm if he was okay with his trail tag (that I found in ZY’s spreadsheet): It didn’t seem terribly flattering. The response? “Of course. I earned it. I told more Bad jokes over so many miles I had to recruit new people To run with me.” There you go. ¶Text and photo by Calvin Wang (Wäng), CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. ¶Cross-published: Facebook Shawmont Running Club (ZY Weekly Newsletter 10/28/23), Shawmont Running Club website, Ruminations by CtCloser.
