All About Me (#213: 2023’07’12’W)

Whom I happen to know better than anyone else

[1 MIN READ]

The more socially outward among us know how to focus on other people. And I don’t mean extroverts here. I mean those who can keep attention on other people over themselves.

I just returned from 12 days in native Alaska during which I was unable to send out run messages the way I usually do. Mo and Aaron knew the routine well enough to take attendance pix that they promptly sent to me. But for one of the two runs that took place when I was absent, there was no weekly message with its traditional invitation, report, and thought. Other runners have done an excellent job of filling in over a few recent years, but even in those cases, this message comes out in its current form because I decided it should and (pretty) consistently make it so.

Someday, I will not be around to do all this and someone else will do the deciding. Jes’ fine. Efforts like this weekly run message really are about the individuals pushing them. It’s what makes transitions at the helms of platforms like Twitter, significant. The “leadership” defines the direction.

For now, no changes are in the works; which means I’ll continue to publish and write both about things and in ways I care about. Sometimes that will include paying attention to other people.*
