Canadian Wildfire Alert (#210: 2023’06’14’W)

Smoked

[1 MIN READ]

The Sunset 5K race (06’T) took place under lovely conditions, given the Growlers turn out and the abundance of other rudder bunnies from Jenkintown, Elkins Park Beer Runners, and even SRC. As we congregated near the finish line, GGR Jimmy pointed out the sky that had become exceedingly hazy; something about Canadian wildfires that I didn’t initially believe (Sorry, lad. You do wear a degree of nutty, sometimes). That nutso was right!

N95 or not, you really want to run in this? Where’s the sun?

Those wildfires were not trivial for the smoke to make it all the way down to Philly according to the news story I read. By the next day, that singular story became a half-dozen and that smoke phenomenon became a health hazard. It even put a damper on the usual 07’W GGR. (Fine, a load of Growlers also ran the S5K the day before.)

It put my mind to other weird events that have seemed to start off like nothing then become exceedingly distracting, the C19 pandemic among them. The word in the news is that the smoke will clear in a couple of days and we’ll be back to normal. Just in time for the next major event to kick in. Record-breaking summer temps anyone? Drought? Covid-23? No thank you.
