The prompt for this Rumination was a run with the Blue Belle contingent of SRC. The bunch of us took off from a park in North Wales and it wasn’t long before Lisa Marie apologized for being kind of loud. Not to say that she herself is a loud person (necessarily!), but her shoes definitely were. It seems she was wearing Nike Alphaflies, which even she was still getting used to.
“Loud” is putting it mildly; it sounded like the clip-clopping of a horse. In fact, even the prints in the mostly-dry mud looked suspiciously equine. We got to a good stopping point finally and she did a quick direct reveal of her shoe soles. Dang, but didn’t they just confirm what already seemed pretty obvious: The toepad was distinctly hoof-like.
Free-association person that I am, it put my mind to the image of a satyr from a movie like The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe or Percy Jackson. That got me to thinking about a more satanic character; like Satan: Satan as a runner. And that finally got me to thinking about the only reasonable thing Satan would say about that mode of physical exertion: Running is hell.
Yes, I thought it out loud. I was channeling the Rumination (#115) about how many of us actually run for fun. KC and FunAnon aside (one having addressed how an aspect of running is fun and other how runners should absolutely run for fun; but neither actually addressing the activity itself), my conclusion is still this: It’ll ruin your sole.
