Not Quite an SRC Effort (#154: ZY Weekly Newsletter 2/24/24)

But mighty close

[1 MIN READ]

Trying to change up long-run efforts and include other rudder bunnies (who have something against Shawmont Avenue at this stage of the spring-marathon training cycle) has taken me away from SRC more than usual, lately. Saturday, 2/10, I was actually in Pitt, when snow and conference converged like two rivers. What came out wasn’t a long run. But that’s not to say the spirit of SRC hasn’t usually been very much present.

My-Oh Maya is among the rudder bunnies (including 3 from my Wednesday night Growlers Group Run at Jenkintown Running Company). As Shawmonters who both had Presidents’ Day off and who also needed someone else to provide motivation, we decided to postpone the usual Saturday effort; however, we did not relocate it. Indeed, we converged on the usual start of Forbidden Drive at Northwestern Avenue about 54½ hours late (read 2p) and took off together with an on-the-trail 12 in mind, out and back.

Where the spirit of SRC was not was with the absence of regular stops. So, barely 2 aggressive hours later, we were back at the Northwestern Ave, huffing and puffing. It was a character-building, race-pace-near-worthy effort right in SRC’s familiar stomping ground. When everyone’s ready, it’ll also be more with SRC’s familiar stomping people.
