One Mighty Growler (#232: 2023’11’22’W)

How one particular runner distinguished herself

[1½ MIN READ]

One GGR revealed a lot about one Growler and a little about information seeking.

It seems Grace, who was supposed to be out for recovery from a medical procedure (less serious itself than what happened next), had trouble during that procedure. It seems that procedure caused an atypical reaction that completely terminated further progress. The reaction and the intervention might have deterred a lesser Growler from showing up as the alternative to recovery time from the then-deferred procedure. It seems that GGR is super therapeutic for her; so she asked for and got clearance from her doc to run anyway.

Her plan was to do no more than half of the 5K route. Instead, she passed the halfway mark and just kept going to the end. It helped that her online research confirmed the particular atypical reaction doesn’t kill people. While it also seemed like the intervention might still have discouraged any other Growler from attending, let me be clear again both that the GGR is super therapeutic for her and that she got clearance from her doc.

Doing searching for medical information on the web is challenging. One of the reasons top hits appear is because other people clicked on it. But those people might have clicked on it for reasons other than what is of interest to the searcher. As serious as Grace’s reaction seemed, she didn’t take what she initially found so seriously as to keep her from searching more. And she vetted that additional web information in tandem with the authority of her doctor.

None of that stopped the other Growlers from holding her in very, very high regard for her theretofore unknown determination.
