2015 & 2026 (#212: ZY Weekly Newsletter 2/7/26)

The same day and date across the years

[2 MIN READ]

I love getting to know people, getting to know their Priorities, their Contexts, their Histories. My goal is to find a point of common interest for building community. The common interest in a running club is the running: voilà, built-in community. Getting to know the club’s members is that much easier.

A running club its own kind of person with its own Priorities, Contexts, and History. For Shawmont Running Club, some Priorities include enjoying the natural setting of the Wissahickon Valley and doing so over ridiculous distances … for fun (ShawmontRunningClub.com and elsewhere). Two of its Contexts are the Wissahickon, Physically, and a warm group of people, Socially. As far as its History, just ask various members to learn a little of it.

As an author of this here little Ruminations feature of the weekly Newsletter, I’ve done that and made it one of my goals to share it through my writing. Zen Yanni understood that and made run reports an important element of the ruminations he wrote. Sometimes the run report was about what happened on SRC’s usual Saturday morning runs from below the horse stables at the location of the now ZY Memorial Bench. Sometimes he compiled and shared reports from folks who couldn’t or wouldn’t make it out.

Enter 2/7. Just not this past one. The last time SRC’s usual Saturday run took place on that date was in 2015. The SRC’s Facebook group had just started a few years before and the club was active both Physically and Socially.

Here’s a link to what was then called the Run Report: 1/31/15 & 2/7/15 (Facebook). In his rumination, the Zenster provides some Historical perspective by reflecting on what seemed to be a mild winter so far. From the Priority perspective, he then gave his advice on running in the cold. From the Contextual perspective he wished everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day. Lovely!

Enter 2/14. Because it was a wicked and slippery day on Forbidden Drive in 2015 (not unlike many days in 2026), he became the reporter for everyone’s efforts who couldn’t and wouldn’t make it out. The folks among those who reported to him represent a who’s who from the annals of SRC, some of whom I’ve met personally and some of whom I’ve only met indirectly by looking back.

As 2026 advances, I’ll do more reporting from 2015 to build community from the past, through the present, and into the future.
